The Oceanarium

Behind the Scenes

The scenery As stated above, the scenery was designed by Dov Ben David. The three screens at the forefront of the hall depict to the audience the occurrences and developments outside the submarine and within the captain's cabin. The hall itself is decked out as the impressive interior of this strange submarine, integrating the legendary Nautilus style with futuristic technology. The surroundings play an active part in the journey, showing signs of the adventures our submarine undergoes during the journey: the ceiling comes down, water enters the hall, and many other impressive effects occur.

Projectors: The movie is projected via three large projectors manufactured by the Israeli company Unic View.

Tilting Seats: The seats are installed on special platforms that are moved by hydraulic axles, allowing for motion in several spheres. The viewers are safely secured to the seats, that are installed in the platforms. This technology originates in the flight simulators developed in the military and civilian sectors. Each platform comprises ten seats. The system includes four pistons (axles) operated by advanced servo valves. Each rotating platform is controlled by a programmed controller that operates the valves via digital signals. The hydraulic power is produced by an electric power supply, and the hydraulic power unit is located outside the hall. A central computerized system controls the platform movements and synchronizes their rotation. The safety means comply with the most stringent standards, and include the following: 1 . Safety belt. The platform rotation is discontinued immediately in the event that one of the viewer's belts is opened. 2 . Safety valves, designed to automatically stop the rotation of the platform in the event of a malfunction. 3 . Manual emergency brake, that stops the platform.

Structure: The Oceanarium structure was designed by Architect Haim Lotner, of the Lotner-Bergman architects agency in Jerusalem. Har Kal served as the project’s head executing contractor.
