Role: Aquarist

Reports to: Curator
As an Aquarist at Ozean Berlin, you’ll join a dedicated team working to care for our animals, inspire our guests, and keep our exhibits vibrant. You have a diverse set of responsibilities:
• Care and husbandry of aquatic animals (fish, invertebrates, reptiles) according to highest standards – species-appropriate, responsible, and compassionate
• Responsibility for hygiene, water, and technical care across all animal areas
• Support in the creative design and development of our aquarium landscapes
• Assistance with feedings, training, and veterinary care
• Maintenance and servicing of life support systems and technical equipment
• Documentation of animal data, transport, and feeding activities in the display system
• Support in projects, new installations, and improvements to guest experience flow
• Collaboration with other departments such as Operations, Marketing, or Education
• Active participation in events, guided tours, or public feeding sessions
• Guidance and supervision of interns, volunteers, and support staff• Participation in training and development, including international options
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, on-call duties, and rotating weekend schedules
• You also care deeply about animals and ocean conservation
• You’re reliable, precise, observant, and good with customers
• Even during busy times you stay calm and focused
• You’re a great team player and love to keep learning
Requirements
Your Profile
• A university degree in marine biology or a related natural science field (preferred)
• A Dive Master certification
• A valid diving medical certificate (including stress cardiology, blood pressure, epilepsy)
• Good command of German and English, both written and spoken (both preferred)
• Experience in aquaristics, animal care, or professional diving (preferred)
• Team spirit, reliability, and enthusiasm for working with both animals and people
• A valid EU work permit
